Can’t get up to New York for a showing of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark but still want to mix your nerdiness with your love of the musical theater. If you’re a fan of 8-bit music, the type that you hear in old ‘80s NES games, an upcoming show has what you’ve been waiting for.
Originally, I was going to mention Compatibility as one of Central Florida’s cool and geeky Kickstarter projects. However, the project has already exceeded its $300 fundraising goal. Now, the production will be running next week, April 18-21 at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center.
The musical focuses on two science-fiction writers and the cast of characters that surrounds them. Mary, the aspiring writer who works at an electronic repair store, is repairing the computer of a popular yet derided writer when she happens upon his newest work. After making some edits, the book becomes a sensation and the two writers are forced to come together.
Tickets for the shows are currently available online for $12 ($10 for students or Walt Disney World employees) for each show. Each show will start promptly at 7:30pm.
