New Home Video & Video Game Releases – Week of May 13, 2012

Featured Release:  Diablo III

12 years…  It has been 12 years since Blizzard released Diablo II.  Blizzard always says that they release games “when they’re done”.  So, 12 years from its predecessor and 4 years since the game was announced at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, Diablo fans have been anxiously anticipating today for a very long time.

Normally, I cover console games here at GGOrlando, but Diablo III is so completely up my alley that it has me dusting off my laptop to get ready to game.  For the n00bs, here’s the basics:  Diablo is an action RPG.  You take the role as the hero of Sanctuary – a fantasy world created for the remnants of civilization following the events of Diablo II.  You will play as one of five different classes:  barbarian, demon hunter, monk, witch doctor, or wizard.

Something new to the series is the online auction house which will use real currency to purchase in-game items.  However, the old player-player auction house using the in-game gold will also be available.

Diablo III releases today for Mac and PC in stores or exclusively online through Blizzard’s digital distribution platform Battle.net.
