New Home Video & Video Game Releases – Week of May 27, 2012

Featured Release: Resistance: Burning Skies

For those who purchased a PlayStation Vita at launch, well…  The pickings have been slim for you.  Yes, after an excellent launch line-up, the news has been mostly negative around the new Sony handheld.

This week brings a hopeful ray of light – the release of Resistance: Burning Skies.  The game promises to be a first-of-its-kind FPS (first-person shooter) available for handhelds.  For fans of the PlayStation 3 series, the title is a compelling side-story to the events of the three previous games (as well the series’ previous portable incarnation, Resistance: Retribution).  You take the role of  Tom Riley, a New Jersey firefighter living in the time of the alien Chimera’s initial assault on the United States.  The take is supposed to offer a more “common man” feel compared to the superhuman Nathan Hale from the first two games of the Resistance series.

In addition to the game’s campaign, you will be able to play competitive multiplayer on-the-go via wi-fi (sorry kids, if you got the 3G model with the AT&T data plan…).

Hopefully, next week’s Sony press conference will announce more titles for the Vita faithful.  But this game is an excellent title to hold you over for whatever announcements are forthcoming for the portable system.

Resistance: Burning Skies arrives on store shelves today.
