Local Spotlight – Coliseum of Comics’ Comic Literacy Course

Have a child who loved The Avengers or is excited for next week’s The Amazing Spider-Man?  Maybe they’re a little older – or maybe just a little more dark and twisted – who can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises.  Want to help get them interested in the source material and stir their passion for reading?  Then enroll them, and yourself, in the new Comic Literacy Course at the Coliseum of Comics – Millenia.

Unfortunately, the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Debby put a damper on yesterday’s first session.  But after listening to instructor Josh Weil’s plans for the upcoming sessions, he has a passion for comics to draw in kids and even rekindle the interest of the casual comic reader.

In the upcoming weeks, the course will spotlight characters like Superman and Spider-Man as well as iconic writers Stan Lee, Alan Moore, and Grant Morrison (surprisingly, no Mark Waid).  During each session, Weil has activities planned to help educate kids on the week’s topic while also utilizing the Millenia store’s extensive collection of back issues to showcase the best of the best.

Considering yesterday’s washout, Session #1 on proper care of comics and introducing the DC and Marvel universes may be rescheduled.  Click here for the full syllabus of upcoming topics.  Since the course works best with active participation, encourage anyone with boys & girls who may be interested in learning more about comics to come out.

Coliseum of Comics – Millenia is located at 4672 Millenia Plaza Way, across from Mall at Millenia.
