New Home Video and Video Game Releases – Week of June 10, 2012

Featured Release: Lollipop Chainsaw

One of my favorite games of 2010 was the over-the-top action game Bayonetta.  What many people dismissed as a mindless T&A romp (the heroine wore a catsuit made up of her own hair, which also was her primary weapon…  Guess what happened when she was in a fight…) was actually a creative and challenging actioner.  I feel that Lollipop Chainsaw may also get a bad rap with it’s uber-sexy cheerleader, but it looks like it has the same sense of humor as well action gameplay as Bayonetta…  And hey, Juliet’s not bad to look at, either (can’t wait for the cosplay!).

When a zombie outbreak hits San Romero High School (get it?!), it’s up to cheerleader Juliet Starling and her sisters to uncover the cause.  Oh, and for some reason, she has a bad-ass chainsaw.  As you can tell, if you’re looking for a dark, survival-horror type zombie game like Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil, this isn’t for you.  If you like your zombie games with a sense of humor, like the original Dead Rising, this will be more in your ballpark.  But takes it to a complete other level with Juliet’s cheerleader-based attack moves which results in sparkles and rainbows coming off the decapitated bodies of fallen zombies.
