Featured Release: Spider-Men #1
So, let me go on record as saying… Even though I am a Marvel fanboy, I am no fan of the Ultimate line. Whenever I’m nerding-out and someone tries to bring up something in Ultimate continuity, I will perpetually say “Ultimates doesn’t count.” That’s why I’m torn with this week’s release of the much-hyped limited series, Spider-Men.
Marvel loves hype, and so last year’s “death” of Peter Parker in the Ultimates line (“Ultimates doesn’t count”) generated much media attention from outlets who didn’t realize that the REAL Peter Parker was doing just fine in the 616. When Ultimate Peter Parker met his maker, the Spidey duties fell to new character Miles Morales (once again, loving the publicity, Marvel decided to make the new Ultimate Spider-Man a half black/half Latino teen).
This week’s new release melds the 616 with the Ultimates, as Peter Parker and Miles Morales fight side-by-side to defeat Mysterio who has brought the two universes together. As someone who despises the Ultimates, I don’t know if I like it crossing-over with my beloved Spidey. But as a complete mark, I guess I’ll probably run out and get it.
