So I just wanted to take a quick moment to share my condolences to the families and friends of those affected by last night's senseless killings. As geeks, it's easy to imagine ourselves in that theater, excited to see a film we've been excited over for the last year - hoping to escape the trials of real life for just a little while - only to be beset by the unimaginable.
I would also like our community to be weary. In our media-age, people are going to be looking for answers and they will - most likely - try to blame our culture on the massacre, just as they always do. They will use the fact that the attack took place in a Batman screening to try to make some social statement that the things we love inherently lead to violence. It is those of us who are sensible enough to distinguish the fantasy of movies, comics, and video games with reality to stand up for our hobbies.
I don't want this to turn into something I didn't intend. Again, I just want to express my sorrow for those in Colorado and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
