Local Spotlight – Ghostbusters Resurrection

When there’s something strange – and it’s happening in Downtown Orlando – "who ya gonna call?”  Yes, the paranormal has overrun the city and the mayor is looking for your help.  That’s the basis for Ghostbusters Resurrection, a tabletop RPG podcast that was recently introduced on the Nerdy Show feed.

In the world created for the podcast, the events of the two Ghostbusters films, as well as 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Video Game, is considered canon.  The Ghostbusters had started franchises throughout the country, but after over 20 years with no supernatural activity (the video game takes place in 1991) most of those businesses have closed and people are once-again skeptical that ghosts ever existed.  However, the city of Orlando is receiving an uptick in 911 calls from concerned citizens reporting that weird things are happening.  The mayor and police chief, exasperated by what they think are weirdos calling the police, decide to open a Ghostbusters franchise – based in an abandoned firehouse in the Mills 50 district – to appease the citizenry.  However, the team of skeptical new recruits answer a call of a taxi cab driving itself downtown and…

That’s the setup of Episode 1 of the Ghostbusters Resurrection, that was posted Friday on the Nerdy Show network.  The show is a recording of a group of guys playing the Ghostbusters RPG tabletop game.  With the addition of sound effects, it almost plays like a radio drama.  While new to the Nerdy Show network, the show was originally started in January with the full first season available on the group’s Tumblr page.
