New Home Video & Video Game Releases – Week of September 9, 2012

Featured Release:  Double Dragon: Neon

Feels like just yesterday my best friend and I would walk up to the Handy Way at the end of our street back in Holly Hill, dropping quarters into their cabinet of Double Dragon.  Thus, it makes me feel ultra-old that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the arcade classic.  This week, Majesco Entertainment and Wayforward Technologies bring Billy and Jimmy back with Double Dragon: Neon.

Neon is a throwback to the original, but with the high-def graphics expected of modern releases.  However, the game stays true to it’s side-scrolling roots – giving the game the aesthetic that has been popularized with other high-def 2-D games like Street Fighter.

In addition, the game features a soundtrack of ‘80s-themed music as an unlockable so you get the subtle joy of the chiptuned music we grew up with.

Double Dragon: Neon arrives on the PlayStation Network today and Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.
