Featured Release: Thanos: The Final Threat #1
So, did you see The Avengers and wonder “Who’s the dude in the credits? The purple guy with the weird chin?” Well, after the friend you went with slapped you upside the head (something I nearly did to a fellow blogger I saw Avengers with, who shall remain nameless), they probably told you the story behind Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet.
Marvel is going all in with the “Mad Eternal” by reintroducing the character in two titles, starting with today’s Thanos: The Final Threat #1. In it, he once again is trying to acquire the illusive Infinity Gems (Soul, Time, Space, Mind, Reality, and Power). From Marvel’s press announcements on the title, I cannot tell if this is a retelling of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, an original take on it (which Marvel just did a couple years ago with Avengers & the Infinity Gauntlet, which gave the dark storyline a comedic take which I enjoyed), or if this is a new story taking place in current continuity.
Also coming up from Marvel is Thanos Quest. Once again, there was an earlier book called Thanos Quest that I remember (not in any detail), so I’m wondering if this is a retelling of that story, a new take on it, or a continuation of the previous Thanos Quest story (which has to be from the late-‘80s/early-‘90s if I remember reading it, so something tells me that won’t be the case).
Finally, Thanos made his first appearance in Avengers Assemble last week in Issue #7. Avengers Assemble is Marvel’s current comic title which is planted in the universe they established in the movies. This introduction of Thanos into the series may give a preview of what role he’ll have in future Marvel films.
Thanos: The Final Threat #1 arrives in stores today.
