$20 Pull List – November 2012

20PullList

I opened up the $20 Pull List for October saying how I felt that the month was seemingly lackluster on the comics front.  However, with the launch of Marvel NOW!, I’m surprisingly excited for the month of November.

Being the Marvel fanboy that I am, this month’s $20 Pull List is heavy with titles from the House of Ideas – an ironic nickname right now.  But, I’m eating it up lock, stock, and barrel.  So, without further ado, here’s my $20 Pull List for November.  Don’t forget to submit your own Pull List here in the comments or reply back on our Facebook page.

all-new-x-men-1All-New X-Men #1 ($3.99)
Release Date: November 7th

I used this blog a couple weeks ago to blast Marvel’s crossover event Avengers vs. X-Men. Needless to say, I was no a fan. But this title, written by AvX’s Brian Michael Bendis, has me intrigued. AvX ends with the mutant and superhero spectrums of the Marvel Universe uniting, giving us the new Marvel NOW! titles Uncanny Avengers and A+X. And, while AvX has reawakened the mutant species, they’re not exactly at a high point.

This is the world where the All-New X-Men starts. The book brings the classic X-Men team introduced in 1963. But this isn’t just the team – including Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Marvel Girl (Jean Grey) – these are the actual characters brought from the ‘60s to the modern day to witness what the last 50 years wrought.

2529723-bm_14Batman #14 ($3.99)
Release Date:  November 14th

Well, comic shops around town sold out of Batman #13 pretty quick.  My shop sold out before I was able to get there that evening.  So, I’ll probably have to catch up with the opening of ‘Death of the Family’ before this month’s Issue #14 arrives in two weeks.

I’ve done a fairly decent job of avoiding spoilers, so I don’t really know what to expect.  I just know that Joker has arrived in the world of the New 52 and that he has sent a powerful message to the Gotham PD and to Batman and his associates as well.  And, with Scott Snyder on the job, I’m excited to see what he has in store.

Amazing Spider-Man #698 ($3.99)
Release Date: November 21st

So I’ve been kind of off-and-on with these final issues of ASM. Of course, it wasn’t until recently that we knew these were going to be the final issues (well, at least for now). Who knows how long series writer Dan Slott knew of the impending doom of ASM, but he is wrapping-up certain threads.

For the last couple of years, one of Spidey’s greatest enemies has been slowly dying. Doctor Octopus, wracked with the physical damage of countless confrontations with the Wall Crawler, was diagnosed with mere months to live (yea, comic book time seems to pass slowly). In this issue, Otto will finally learn the true identity of his long-time foe.

Nowhere Men #1 ($2.99)
Release Date:  November 21st

As you can probably tell from some of my more recent picks here – like Manhattan Projects and Saucer Country – I have a particular interest in science-fiction comics.

I have a keen fondness for sci-fi about pushing the limits of science and the moral repercussions of doing so.  Nowhere Men fits such a niche.  A group of scientists at the World Corp. are the greatest of their era.  However, when they reach too far who’s takes responsibility and what can be done about it?

Indestructible Hulk #1 ($3.99)
Release Date:  November 21st

OMG am I excited for this!  Hulk is one of my all-time favorite characters, since watching the classic Bill Bixby show as a kid on Sunday mornings.  However, there’s always a problem with being the most powerful character…  Writers don’t know what to do with them.  They either give them a powerful weakness that is constantly exploited (Superman/Kryptonite) or make other creatures just as powerful as they are.  Since the Hulk has no known weakness, recent volumes have given heaping helpings of the latter option – with Hulks of varying colors and sexes.

Now, one of my favorite comic writers, Mark Waid, is taking over the character.  He made me excited for Daredevil, a character I’m not particularly a fan of, so I can only imagine what he can do with Dr. Banner.

TOTAL:  $18.95 + $1.14 (Tax) = $20.09

Went a couple pennies over (The Man, always keeping us down), but close enough.  Dropped the first issue of the new Marvel NOW! run of Iron Man to stay within budget.
