Well, what seems to have been an interminably long time, Avengers vs. X-Men is finally wrapping up. Now, as I have said here earlier, I am not an overly big fan of the Marvel crossover events which consistently start strong and then fizzle-out. This time, only took a couple of episodes for it to fizzle-out for me.
This week, several Marvel comics promise to wrap-up the events of AvX (that is, until the actual epilogue issues that will be coming soon). The main event concludes with today’s Avengers vs. X-Men #12. MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES… Issue 11 wrapped with Cyclops killing Professor X and defeating Emma Frost to become the soul possessor of the Phoenix Force. With all the X-Men now out of the fight, and Cyclops with the power of the Universe at his disposal, we all know how this is going to end up. The more interesting part is how Bendis intends to get us there.
AvX Vs. #6 also promises some closure with a duel between Hope and the Scarlet Witch. To be honest, it didn’t take much for me to turn on the stupidity that was the Vs. series. The mindlessness of the fights, as well as the absolute absurdity of them, was a huge turn-off. Even more of a turn-off was their revelry for this mindlessness – as if they were proud of how shameless this spin-off was.
So, before I continue on with my rant, let me wrap this up. I guess the positive to take away from AvX, fellow Marvel fans, is that in a month the events will be wiped away in the “we’re not going to retcon” retconning of the Marvel U that will be Marvel NOW!.
After this glowing recommendation, Avengers vs. X-Men and AvX Vs. arrive on store shelves today.
